As I sit here attempting to get Kara to sleep, I have begun to read a book. (I say "attempting" because Kara has decided to switch up her nights and days so it seems.) I have started to read Praying the Scriptures for Your Children by Jodie Berndt. This book has given me something do read during those late-night feedings that have now become a daily part of my mom routine. I have Denise and Gayle to thank for this fantastic book.
For all you moms and dads out there (new ones or not-so-new ones), I highly recommend this book. I don't think it's ever too early (or too late) to start praying for your children.
This author has taken various topics that you would pray about for your child, and applies Scripture in the form of prayer to address each topic. As a new mom, my utmost concern for Kara is that she would develop a faith that will someday allow me to see her in Heaven. The first chapter tackles this subject. At the end of each chapter, there are prayers that are based off of various verses from Scripture to use, with blanks for your child's name. I wanted to share a couple of these with all of you:
Count Kara as one of your people, and be her God. Give her a singleness of heart and action, so that she will always fear you for her own good and for the good of her children. Make an everlasting covenant with Kara . Never stop doing good to her, and inspire her to fear you so that she will never turn away from you. JEREMIAH 32: 39-40
I pray that Kara would put her trust in you and never be shaken. PSALM 125:1
I know that there is nothing I can do to MAKE Kara believe. But I pray that the Holy Spirit will work in her heart to bring her to faith, and come to love her Lord.

Thanks for posting this, Alli. It's always good to be reminded of how important our job is and how big our God is :) I want to get a copy of that book. By the way, Kara is such a cutie! I love all of the pictures from the last post.
