My attempt at a cake smash photo shoot...

Well, I wanted to try to have a cake smash photo shoot with Kara.  All I came to realize was that Kara can't sit still for more than 2 seconds at a time, and that it might be time for a new camera.

Here, I set the scene.  I wanted to stick with the colors I had chosen for her birthday party to go along with the Little Miss Sunshine theme.

I made a banner, a cake, and Dan picked up some balloons.  While the balloons may have added some more interest to the background, we later found that to have been a mistake...Kara was much more interested in the balloons at first than the cake.  I don't think she really understood the point of a cake smash session.

To start, Kara was much more interested in the decorations than the cake.  Granted this (picture at right) was before the cake was even in the scene, but it was a challenge to keep her from destroying the banner I had made.

In the picture at left, Kara appears to be focused on the cake.  However, the only reason she has any icing on her is because she tried to make a run for it, and crawled over the top of her cake.  Come on, what girl doesn't like cake???

Here is where we had to move the balloons so she would actually eat some of the cake!

Once we finally got her to taste the cake, she still refused to use her hands to eat any of the cake.  Instead, she bent at the waist and went face first into the cake. (There we go... Now we're talking.  Maybe we'll get some decent pictures yet.)

It took some coercion, but Kara finally started going after the cake.  Well, kind of.  She'd sit up, and laugh, then nose dive into the cake again.  It was pretty ridiculous.

That's our girl!  :)

Once she started diving in, I was able to get some good pics...

The next one is my favorite one of the day :)

But the focus (or lack thereof) also leads me to believe that it's time for a better camera.  It's too bad it's so grainy.

We had to wrap Kara in a sheet to get her up to the bath without spreading cake crumbs around the house.  This picture documents the aftermath.

While this may have been a good effort on our part, I think I should leave these cake smash sessions to the professionals!
